Tampa man sentenced for embezzling $500k from employer for vacation, debt: DOJ

TAMPA, Fla. (WFLA)— A Tampa man was sentenced for wire fraud and possession of a firearm as a convicted felon, the Department of Justice announced.

Zachary Rugen, 34, was sentenced to 5 years in prison and also entered an order of forfeiture in the amount of $440,755.18.

According to court documents and testimony, between October 2020 and March 2022, Rugen was employed as the personnel director for a company in St. Petersburg, where he embezzled at least $503,372.01 from the company.
