Woman hides in mangroves, bites officer after crash near Courtney Campbell Causeway: police

TAMPA, Fla. (WFLA) — A woman was arrested Tuesday after she crashed her car, hid in mangroves near the Courtney Campbell Causeway and later bit an officer who tried to help her, according to the Clearwater Police Department.

Police reported that the incident began around 5:30 p.m., when officers started receiving calls about a woman, later identified as Kelsi Cole, who abandoned her car in the westbound lanes of the causeway.

Witnesses told officers that Cole was seen running up to cars and trying to get into them.

Clearwater Fire & Rescue said it arrived at the scene first and moved Cole’s car out of the roadway, but she was nowhere to be found.

A short time later, Clearwater officers said they began to search for Cole and found her naked and hiding in the mangroves near the bridge.
