Hillsborough County Invites Adults 50+ to Compete in Active Life Games

Hey Bay Area Boomers and beyond! If you’ve been searching for a way to flex those muscles and enjoy some neighborly competition, the Hillsborough Active Life Games have got you covered. According to a news release from Hillsborough County, the festive face-off is open to adults aged 50 and up, setting the stage for a series of sporting events that put fun over the finish line.

Registration for the local Olympics of the older-and-wiser set kicked off on Thursday and is set to wrap up September 12, giving you just enough time to dig out those tennis shoes and start training. As reported by Hillsborough County, the competition stretches from the start of fall on September 29, through to October 10, with venues scattered like shotputs across the county. If you are looking for a low-impact sport, there’s shuffleboard or billiards. But if you’re ready to run rings around the youngsters, track and field awaits. And of course, there’s pickleball.

It’s not just about the medals and the glory, though. There’s an extra spin on this serve: success in these games could lead to competing in the Florida Senior Games, as they double as a regional qualifier. The opening ceremonies are penciled in for 10 a.m. on September 29 at Barksdale Senior Center, with the games wrapping up with closing ceremonies at the Victor Crist Community Center, 11 a.m., October 10…
