Possible explosive resembling WWI artillery shell found on Indian Rocks Beach

INDIAN ROCKS BEACH, Fla. (WFLA) — A possible explosive device was recovered from Indian Rocks Beach on Sunday night.

Pinellas County Sheriff’s Office deputies were called to the 15th Ave. beach access point for “a report of found property, possibly an explosive device, on the beach” nearby, according to a news release from the city.

Law enforcement cleared the beach as a precaution. The Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office Bomb Squad and the MacDill Air Force Base Explosive Ordnance Disposal team were also called out to the beach.

The device did not have any markings to determine its origin, but police said it resembled a World War I era artillery shell. It was taken back to the air force base for proper disposal…
