Vehicle Strikes Light Pole, Trapping Occupants Inside; Identities Pending
A fiery single-vehicle crash on the Merritt Island Causeway early Saturday morning claimed the lives of two people, according to the Florida Highway Patrol (FHP). The victims, who were trapped inside the burning SUV, have not yet been identified.
The incident occurred around 2:34 a.m. at the intersection of the causeway and Kiwanis Island Park Road. A 2011 Toyota RAV4 was traveling westbound on the Merritt Island Causeway when the driver reportedly lost control of the vehicle.
The FHP crash report indicates that the SUV veered off the road to the right, colliding with a traffic control light pole. The impact caused the vehicle to immediately burst into flames, engulfing the car and its occupants…
