TAMPA, Fla. — Hillsborough County Commissioner Harry Cohen wants to take advantage of the extra space added to the new span of the Howard Frankland Bridge for a transportation connection between airports.
“The new Howard Frankland Bridge was built to accommodate some sort of rail or fixed guide way transportation,” he said. “It’s strong enough to support it and it has the right of way dedicated to it.”
The new $865 million southbound span opened back in March, with the express lanes expected to open next spring. Cohen believes light rail or busses between Tampa International Airport and the St. Pete-Clearwater International Airport would activate the line and help connect the growing region…
