NEW PORT RICHEY, FLa. — A 24-year-old New Port Richey man was arrested late Wednesday night after allegedly attempting to break into a home with a “Scream” wreath and carrying a fake bloody knife — believing it was Halloween.
According to the Pasco County Sheriff’s Office, the incident occurred around 9:45 p.m. at a residence in New Port Richey. Deputies say Miguel Garcia Diaz arrived at the home, which he does not live at, carrying a “Scream” Halloween wreath and a costume knife covered in fake blood. Believing it was Halloween, Diaz reportedly attempted to go “trick or treating.”
Deputies said the homeowner saw Diaz trying to open her front door before he moved to the east side of the house and removed a window screen. When the victim spotted him through the window, she armed herself with a kitchen knife and warned him not to enter. Diaz allegedly lifted his own fake knife and showed it to her before walking back toward the front door with his face partially covered by the wreath…
