Villager who got lost in golf cart after drinking at Ednas’ loses license

A Villager who went off course in a golf cart after drinking at Ednas’ on the Green has lost his driver’s license.

Irvin Blair Cox, 74, who lives in the Newport Villas in the Village of Largo, pleaded no contest last week in Sumter County Court to a charge of driving under the influence. He will lose his driver’s license for six months, has been placed on probation for one year and has been ordered to perform 50 hours of community service.

He was driving a red golf cart shortly before 5 p.m. July 20 when he was spotted at the intersection of U.S. 301 and Huey Street, according to an arrest report from the Wildwood Police Department.

The officer activated his emergency lights and siren in an attempt to initiate a traffic stop because the golf cart was traveling on a prohibited roadway.
