Pasco tax collector tells lawmakers property tax reduction will have major impact on his office

NEW PORT RICHEY — While Florida lawmakers continue to consider reducing or eliminating property taxes, Pasco County state legislators learned Monday that they would need to find an alternative source of funding to keep up services for residents updating motor vehicle records.

Pasco County Tax Collector Mike Fasano said that 95% of the work his staff provides involve motor vehicle services, for which they receive a small percentage of the fees paid, but that’s not nearly enough to cover his costs. Those losses, he said, are made up through property taxes…
