Cancer patient speaks ahead of Moffitt going out of network with Aetna Medicare plans

TAMPA, Fla. (WFLA) — A cancer patient is sounding the alarm about insurance company business dealings that she said put her life and thousands of others at risk.

In September, 8 On Your Side was informed Moffitt Cancer Center will be out of network with Aetna. Some patients reached out but were afraid of being blackballed by either company if they spoke out. The cancer patient in this story is remaining anonymous for that reason but said there are not enough people talking about this.

The woman said she’s been treated extensively at Moffitt Cancer Center. She’s been insured by Aetna because she was told they gave the best coverage at Moffitt. Moffitt said currently 6,476 patients in the past year are enrolled in Aetna. Some of them could be dropped from coverage.

“I put my trust and my faith in Aetna Medicare to provide for me,” she said. “I don’t even know if I’m going to be alive in three months.”…
