Driver switches license plate prior to second traffic stop in The Villages

A driver with a suspended license switched the license plate on his vehicle prior to his second traffic stop in the same day in The Villages.

Raymond William Fletcher, 49, of Tampa, had been pulled over early Tuesday morning in a Nissan Altima and was issued a criminal citation for driving while license suspended, according to an arrest report from the Wildwood Police Department.

A short time later, another Wildwood police officer spotted the same vehicle being driven near the Village of Waters Edge, but this time the vehicle had a South Carolina license plate, which it did not have during the first traffic stop.

During the second traffic stop, the second officer confirmed that it was indeed Fletcher who was driving again. When asked for a driver’s license, Fletcher pulled out a copy of the criminal citation issued to him during the earlier traffic stop. The officer confirmed that Fletcher’s driver’s license has been suspended since January. His Florida license plate, which had been on the vehicle during the first traffic stop, had expired in July. Fletcher admitted he’d put the South Carolina license plate on his car because he had planned to continue driving.
