Fleeing driver dies in secondary crash after hit-and-run in Pinellas Park

PINELLAS PARK, Fla. (WFLA) — The Pinellas Park Police Department said a man is dead after fleeing the scene of a hit-and-run and then getting into another crash.

The first incident happened on Friday at the intersection of US-19 and Gandy Boulevard in Pinellas Park, and was described by police as a minor collision between a GMC Sierra and a Hyundai Sonata.

The GMC fled the scene after the crash, PPPD said.

Shortly after, at around 10 p.m., the driver of the GMC failed to stop at a stop sign and hit a tree. He was transported to a nearby hospital, where he died of his injuries.
