Carjacking suspect nabbed after 120 mph pursuit on Christmas Day

A carjacking suspect was nabbed on Christmas Day after fleeing from law enforcement at a speed of more than 120 miles per hour on Interstate 75 in Sumter County.

Anthony Renard Sheppard, 29, was at the wheel of a black 2014 Honda CR-V northbound on I-75 at about 8:30 p.m. when he was spotted by a member of the Florida Highway Patrol, who was aware that the vehicle had been stolen during an armed carjacking in Tampa.

As Sheppard drove past the trooper, Sheppard accelerated and turned off his headlights. With the FHP patrol vehicle in pursuit, Sheppard exceeded 120 miles per hour in the stolen vehicle. He refused to pull over when the trooper tried to initiate a traffic stop.

Concerned about continuing the pursuit amid heavy holiday traffic, the trooper used his squad car to intentionally ram the right rear portion of the stolen vehicle, successfully stopping it…
