Pinellas County former administrator, major general dies

CLEARWATER, Fla. (WFLA) — A former Pinellas County administrator and icon died on Saturday, according to a Pinellas County release.

Fred E. Marquis, who held the role of Pinellas County’s former administrator from 1979-2000, was also a proud veteran serving as a Major General in the United States Army.

Marquis played an instrumental part in developing and expanding the Pinellas Trail into a community amenity. His vision has led to an accessible space for thousands of cyclists, families, and nature lovers to continue to enjoy.
