A Tuesday morning errand run turned into a nightmare for Sheri Amarillas. The Hillsborough County, Florida, resident — who works in tech and considers herself “pretty educated in this specific space” — nearly lost $10,000 after receiving a voicemail from someone claiming to be with the sheriff’s office.

“It was a very scary, stressful situation,” Amarillas told Tampa Bay 28 (WFTS) (1). “And if it can happen to me … it 100% can happen to anyone else.”
