Unaddressed ‘spider infestation’ resulted in Largo resident losing her toes, lawsuit claims

LARGO, Fla. (WFLA) — A woman is suing a Largo apartment complex, claiming management refused to address a severe “spider infestation” that resulted in her having to amputate two of her toes.

Patricia Shields moved into a unit at the Grand Oak Apartments in November 2024. She said the complex was recommended to her under a Section 8 program.

It wasn’t long after that Shields said she began noticing spiders in her unit, most of which appeared to be “descending” from a vent in the bathroom ceiling.

According to the lawsuit, Shields notified the front office of the potential infestation multiple times between November 2024 and Summer 2025 and was told spiders were not covered under pest control obligations…
