MILAN (WFLA) — Will Freeswick could’ve tuned into the Winter Olympics from home like millions of other Americans will, but he decided to make the long journey from his home in St. Petersburg to Italy.
Strolling through the streets of Milan, he’s been taking in all the sights the ancient city has to offer, but he’s here to see a different kind of Italian treasure.

Growing up in New Jersey, Freeswick played hockey with Jacquie Pierri, a pro ice hockey player and member of the Italian women’s team competing in the Olympics this year.
The pair stayed friends, and Freeswick said the whole team has remained close through the years. Traveling thousands of miles to support an old friend was something he knew he wanted to do.
