On the solemn anniversary of a day that shook a nation, the Pinellas County Sheriff’s Office took to social media to honor the 17 individuals whose lives were tragically cut short at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School (MSDHS) eight years ago. In a Facebook post, Sheriff Bob Gualtieri remembered the victims by name and reiterated the commitment to bettering school safety, a cause that has seen the state’s policies recognized on a national level.
“Eight years ago today, a needless tragedy took 17 lives at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School (MSDHS). Those affected remain in our thoughts, but our thoughts are not enough. The best thing we can do to honor the victims is to make schools safer,” Sheriff Gualtieri stated on the Pinellas County Sheriff’s Office. He also emphasized that, although significant policy changes have been enacted, the process is ongoing and the work to prevent future tragedies is far from complete.
