Residents in a Riverview Community debate whether to maintain a local dam or let a lake dry up

HILLSBOROUGH COUNTY, Fla. — Residents in a Hillsborough County neighborhood are trying to save a lake that’s not only home to wildlife, but also a huge driver for property values in the area.

It’s a conversation that has been had for years in Riverview’s Shadow Run neighborhood, but now residents have to come up with a solution quickly. A town hall was planned for Monday night at the Riverview Library. There’s a home surrounded by the lake, nestled in the trees is part of what made Beverly White-Higgs and Xavier Higgs want to purchase their property in the Shadow Run neighborhood.

“We really wanted a large lot, and we wanted to do something from the ground up. This is our forever home,” Higgs-White said…
