DAYTON, Ohio (WDTN) – A man in Lorain County lost $9k after being scammed by a man wearing a standard Ohio Sheriff’s uniform. The scammer convinced the man there was a warrant for his arrest and demanded a cash deposit in ‘Bitcoin’, in order for him to avoid arrest.
The scammer was wearing a normal Ohio Deputy Sheriff Patrol uniform and pretended to be law enforcement. He visited the Village of Timberlake on Tuesday, May, 19. He worked with a group of telephone scammers to convince the man to withdraw $9,300 in cash and deposit it into a Bitcoin machine, then hand him the confirmation info.

The scammer tricked him and said there was a warrant for his arrest for failing to appear for jury duty.
“Please DO NOT fall for this, as Law enforcement will never contact you by phone [to tell you] that you have an arrest warrant. If you were to get a call of this type, please report it to your local law enforcement agency,” wrote officials…
