CLEVELAND, Ohio — Skywatchers in Northeast Ohio and beyond will get a “once in a blue moon” moment this weekend — but don’t expect the moon to actually turn blue.
The full moon on Sunday, May 31, will be a blue moon, meaning it’s the second full moon to fall within the same calendar month. May’s first full moon, known as the Flower Moon, arrived on May 1. The second one reaches peak fullness at 4:45 a.m. Sunday, according to the Old Farmer’s Almanac.
For Cleveland, that means the technical peak comes shortly before moonset Sunday morning. But the moon should still look full to most people on the surrounding nights, giving skywatchers a few chances to catch it.
