Fire in vacant Cleveland house leaves 1 hospitalized; officials say ‘squatters’ lived inside amid hoarding conditions

CLEVELAND — A woman was rescued from a fire at a vacant house in Cleveland’s Broadway-Slavic Village neighborhood Sunday morning, officials say.

A Cleveland Division of Fire spokesperson told 3News via email that the fire broke out in a home where “squatters” were living inside amid hoarding conditions.

Crews responded just before 9:30 a.m. to 3678 East 55th St., where they found a fire in the basement of the house with some flames extending to the upper floors. Firefighters pulled an adult woman from the steps between the first and second floors…
