Heights 100 offers weekend of celebration

The oldest alumnus of Cleveland Heights High School to attend the opening night of the school’s three-day 100th anniversary weekend celebration at Tiger Stadium was 98-year-old Stanley Wertheim of Pepper Pike.

Wertheim, class of 1945, secured one of the best seats in the house, a well-cushioned wicker sofa in the special VIP area, affording him a great view of the stage set up on the east side of the field.

Calm amidst the crowds of excited alumni, friends, vendors, stage performers and line dancers, hula-hoopers, cornhole players, food trucks and more, Wertheim, who said he retired after 42 years with The Illuminating Co., was a man on a mission.

What he wanted most was to sing the Cleveland Heights High School alma mater with the alumni choir…
