In a chilling incident, a man has been sentenced to prison after shooting a woman during a carjacking and throwing her one-year-old child out of the car into the snow. The man, identified as Ronald Loftis, 47, was sentenced to 51 to 56½ years in prison, prosecutors announced on Tuesday, July 7.
In June, he pleaded guilty to three counts of felonious assault, aggravated robbery, and several other charges, according to Cuyahoga County Prosecutor Michael C. O’Malley. “Ronald Loftis is a violent predator who terrorized women and children on Cleveland’s Near West Side,” said Malley.
What happened during the carjacking
On January 2, at around 7:30 a.m., Loftis approached the woman’s car and demanded money at gunpoint in the 7900 block of Madison Avenue. The victim allegedly refused to comply and did not hand over any money.
The situation escalated when the suspect grabbed for her keys, and the two became involved in a physical altercation. During the struggle, the suspect’s gun discharged, and the bullet struck the woman in the face. Loftis then took the boy, threw him out of the car, and drove away from the scene.
