Joe Russo’s Almost Dead played a concert Saturday at Evans Amphitheater in Cleveland Heights, Ohio. After turning in two sets comprised of songs from the Grateful Dead’s live repertoire, JRAD encored with a debut take on a favorite by The Allman Brothers Band.
Drummer Joe Russo, bassist Dave Dreiwitz, keyboardist Marco Benevento and guitarists Scott Metzger and Tom Hamilton have frequently pulled from outside the Grateful Dead’s stable of songs to cover different artists. The Allman Brothers Band has been sourced by JRAD numerous times, with the group previously covering “Whipping Post,” “In Memory Of Elizabeth Reed,” “Revival” and others associated with the Southern rock legends.
