COLUMBUS, Ohio (WCMH) — The office of the Ohio Disciplinary Counsel filed a complaint this week with the Board of Professional Conduct against a Cleveland-area attorney claiming he used artificial intelligence tools that generated false statements.
According to the complaint, attorney William Norman “admitted that a non-lawyer member of his staff had used artificial intelligence tools which ‘hallucinated’” statements by a prosecuting attorney that were never actually said.
This is not the first time an Ohio attorney has faced state sanction for this type of error. In June, the Board of Professional Conduct recommended indefinite suspension for another Cleveland-area attorney who, among other things, admitted to using an AI program which cited cases that do not exist.
