West side communities hit hard by strong storms: ‘Wind started coming really fast’

WESTLAKE, Ohio (WJW) – The clean-up is underway in west side communities like Westlake and Rocky River, after a powerful thunderstorm on Monday morning unleashed winds that toppled trees and knocked down power lines.

Residents in a quiet neighborhood at Hilliard and Horseshoe boulevards in Westlake knew right away it was going to one of those Monday mornings that everyone dreads.

“I thought it was straight line winds because they were blowing. We really didn’t have indication of a tornado, there was no hail or anything like that,” said Westlake resident Tony Iannetti.
