Three Starving Puppies Pulled From Vacant Cleveland Home, Investigation Underway

Three emaciated puppies were pulled from a vacant home near Park Avenue and East 71st Street in Cleveland this week, found surrounded by trash with no food or water. After animal control officers rescued them, the puppies were so desperate for hydration that they drank standing water out of a nearby garbage can.

Cleveland Animal Care and Control shared news of the rescue in a social media post Wednesday, and the discovery was first reported by Cleveland 19 News. The puppies are now receiving multiple feedings a day as they begin to recover, and the agency said it will continue to help animals in need before they are eventually made available for adoption through CITY DOGS Cleveland once they are healthy enough.

The case has now moved from rescue to investigation. A City of Cleveland spokesperson confirmed that the official animal abuse and neglect inquiry into how the puppies ended up abandoned has been turned over to the Animal Protective League’s Humane Investigations Department, according to WKYC. Investigators will look into who left the puppies behind.
