CLEVELAND, Ohio – This week’s windy, warmer winter weather helped to melt the ice cover around the Western Basin of Lake Erie and its Lake Erie Island area. That prompted the U.S. Coast Guard’s Sector Detroit to suspend its rare Erie Islands Regulated Navigation Area (RNA) rule to require boaters to seek Coast Guard permission to launch 72 hours beforehand.
