Man dodges out-of-control vehicle on icy Route 2 by jumping wall

Traffic accidents closed Route 2 westbound downtown this morning and sent a 36-year-old man who survived a miraculous jump over the freeway wall to the hospital.

Three accidents involving three vehicles happened around 10 a.m. on Sunday near the West 3rd and West 6th entrances. Cleveland Fire Department officials believe icy road conditions may have been caused by the shadows from nearby buildings.

An adult male was on the road following one of the accidents when another vehicle that had lost control slid toward him, according to the Cleveland Fire Department. To avoid being hit, he jumped the wall and fell about 30 feet. He landed feet-first and survived. He was taken to the hospital in serious condition.

An adult female was transported by EMS in stable condition. Two other adults were uninjured and left the scene.

The highway was closed for over an hour while police, fire, and EMS were on the scene. Traffic was diverted to the East 9th exit while first responders investigated.
