Driver charged in deadly hit-and-run of local businesswoman: I-Team

CLEVELAND (WJW) — A driver has been indicted for a hit-and-run that killed Cassandra Fear, a popular local businesswoman, the FOX 8 I-Team has learned.

Cuyahoga County prosecutors have indicted 78-year-old Gus Blavos.

He faces a felony charge of failure to stop after an accident. He also faces a misdemeanor charge of vehicular homicide.

Prosecutors indicted the driver on a lesser, misdemeanor version of vehicular homicide instead of a felony as they determined he was negligent and not reckless. That is, investigators found no evidence the driver had been speeding or that he’d been intoxicated.

Cleveland police say, in December, a driver hit Cassie Fear and took off leaving her to die on the 3700 block of West 130th Street.

Detectives, then, sent the case to Cuyahoga County prosecutors to be heard by a grand jury.

A report shows police began investigating the night of the crime by talking to a witness and reviewing security video.
