Review: This place in Westlake, Ohio offers some great food

The other day, I was writing and/or staring at the blank screen while futilely waiting for inspiration in Westlake. After a few hours, I still found myself empty of inspiration and now found my stomach empty of food.

For lunch, I decided to check out the local bakery Gray House Pies, which is located in Westlake at 26075 Detroit Road. I was hoping that I would finally get the chance to try one of their chicken pot pies. It’s been a while since I’ve had a good chicken pot pie. The last chicken pot pie I got was from Boston Market, and honestly, it was worse than a frozen chicken pot pie you could get from the grocery store for $1.

Alas, when I went to Gray House Pies, the regretful but friendly employee informed me that they were out of chicken pot pies. I didn’t leave the store empty-handed, however. For lunch, I got one of the ready-to-eat pasties in the case and a slice of pizza.

A pasty is a hand pie filled with meat. The one I got from Gray House Pies was a British-style hand pie filled with beef and potatoes. I took a bite, and to be honest, I had a somewhat mixed opinion. While I loved the pastry and how buttery and flaky it was, I was not the biggest fan of the filling. The beef was tender and juicy, but I did not care for the seasoning. However, I’m not a big fan of British food in general, so my taste-buds may just not be receptive to British flavors.
