Watch: ‘Street justice’ helps lead to suspected drunk driver’s arrest

CLEVELAND (WJW) — A video released to the Fox 8 I-Team shows police arresting a suspected drunk driver found with the help of an angry crowd.

Records show Julius Baker has now been indicted for aggravated vehicular assault and driving under the influence. The case goes back to December at West 101 st Street and Western Avenue in Cleveland .

Police said Baker hit a woman who was crossing the street, even though she was in a crosswalk. It left her seriously hurt.

A court complaint shows that Baker stayed at the scene at first, but then“walked away from a hostile crowd.”

Police said relatives of the victim followed the driver and alerted police to where he had gone.

The Cleveland Police body camera video shows officers ordering Baker to “Get on the ground, right now!”

An officer also asked him, “Why are you running, dude?”
