‘Something has to stop’ – 10-year-old shot in Old Brooklyn; neighbors concerned

In Old Booklyn, residents are taking their safety concerns to a meeting at St. James Lutheran Church, hoping to spark some change in their neighborhood.

“It has to stop some place. Something has to stop,” said Old Brooklyn resident Patricia Looby.

Just hours after Cleveland Police Sergeant Wilfred Diaz says a 10-year-old was shot in the 5100 block of Gifford Avenue in the Old Brooklyn neighborhood, dozens of concerned residents like Patricia Looby came together for their monthly Old Brooklyn Safety Meeting on Monday.

Whatever goes on in this Old Brooklyn neighborhood is reported at this meeting,” said Looby.

Looby has been attending this meeting for more than 20 years with neighbors like Fred Hodges to address issues like this one.

“These are the kinds of things that we want to be aware of and know that these activities are going on even on peaceful type streets that people would never think,” said Old Brooklyn resident, Fred Hodges.

The Cleveland Division of Police is investigating after a 10-year-old boy was shot on Monday afternoon on the city’s South Side.
