CLEVELAND (WJW) – Several local law enforcement officials say they are hopeful the new Northeast Ohio Crime Gun Intelligence Center will help them lock up more violent criminals.
Dozens of local officers were at the new center in Cleveland Tuesday touring the facility with U.S. Attorney General Merrick Garland.
“I think this will help us in our investigations and prosecutions,” said Euclid Police Chief Scott Meyer. “Our officers have taken a lot of guns off the streets and this will definitely help us get evidence. We also need our local judges to give appropriate sentences for violent criminals.”
The center is a centralized law enforcement hub that focuses exclusively on investigating and preventing gun violence in local communities.
Akron Police Chief Brian Harding told us his department is using the technology at the center as detectives continue to investigate a mass shooting that happened earlier this month. That shooting killed one person and injured more than two dozen people.
