New rules in place for Fairport Mardi Gras celebration

FAIRPORT HARBOR, Ohio (WJW) – Organizers of the Fairport Mardi Gras are alerting attendees to new rules this year.

According to organizers , Mardi Gras has been a “cornerstone” of Fairport Harbor’s Fourth of July celebrations for more than 80 years.

“Our goal is to provide a free, family-friendly festival to our local communities, while using the proceeds to provide scholarships, donations to local food banks, school groups, and other charitable endeavors throughout the year,” organizers said in a press release .

To continue their mission, here are the new policies they’re implementing for the 2024 festival:

  • Entrance and exit to the festival must be done at one of the marked access points. All daytime traffic should use the main entrance at the lighthouse. The north side beach entrance will be available in the later afternoons or after 7 p.m.
  • Minors must have a parent or guardian after 7 p.m.
  • No fighting or disorderly behavior.
  • No hoods or face masks permitted unless medically necessary.
  • Book bags or oversized bags are subject to inspection upon entry.
  • Alcohol must be purchased from, and remain in, the designated Entertainment Garden.
  • Additional items may be prohibited at the discretion of law enforcement or event officials.
  • By requesting entry into this event, all festivalgoers and attendees shall be subject to search.
