Cleveland city leaders claim crime is down, but look what else the I-Team found

CLEVELAND (WJW) – The FOX 8 I-Team on Wednesday took tough questions to Cleveland city leaders about your safety.

Mayor Justin Bibb and Cleveland police leaders just announced a big drop in homicides and other crimes.

The mayor calls his summer safety plan a success, but some viewers, recent victims of crime and some city council members are questioning the city’s crime statistics.

So, the I-Team looked at what’s working and what’s not.

Just this summer, Cleveland police officer Jamieson Ritter was shot and killed in the line of duty. A 10 year-old girl was shot and killed and a 7-year-old boy was killed by a hit-and-run driver.

The mayor says the homicide rate dropped over the summer by more than a third. However, we asked city leaders about the homicide number they released since the stats didn’t match numbers kept in the Cleveland Police Homicide Unit.
