Man to stand trial in local business owner’s death

CLEVELAND (WJW) – A man charged in the hit-and-run death of a local businesswoman is set to stand trial Monday.

Gus Blavos, 79, is charged in the death of Cassandra Fear .

The incident occurred in December when Fear, 41, struck a parked car on West 130th Street around 9 p.m. After exiting her vehicle to assess the damage, she was fatally struck by a passing vehicle, which police identified as belonging to Blavos.

Fear was known as the outgoing and energetic owner of Fear’s Confections in Lakewood. She closed her candy shop in 2023 to spend more time with her family.

Blavos entered a not guilty plea in February.
