Smart, AI security camera on patrol in downtown Cleveland

CLEVELAND (WJW) – Downtown Cleveland Incorporated announced Wednesday they are stepping up security by deploying a smart camera security system downtown.

“The camera is a smart AI camera that will be here in public square from now until March,” said Michael Deemer, president and CEO of Downtown Cleveland.

According to Deemer, it’s all part of a pilot program with Robotic Assistance Devices.

Nicknamed Rio, the solar-powered security camera has a 360 field of view.

“The cameras are monitored by our ambassadors from 7 a.m. until midnight so we can respond in real-time if things are amiss around the camera,” said Deemer.

It’s also AI-driven, meaning it can analyze loitering and trespassing patterns after hours.

“It will give us an idea of when there is activity is happening we don’t want to see. We can adapt our strategies and work with public safety officials to address those things as well,” said Deemer.
