PHOTOS: Northern lights spotted in Northeast Ohio

CLEVELAND (WJW) – Don’t forget to look up! The northern lights are once again visible over Northeast Ohio Thursday night.

Plenty of FOX 8 viewers are capturing the hues of purple, pink and green in the clear night sky, as seen in the photo gallery below.

The phenomenon, also called an aurora, occurs when charged particles from the sun collide with our atmosphere.

According to FOX 8 meteorologists, the best time to view the lights will likely be from 10 p.m. Thursday through 4 a.m. Friday.

To catch a glimpse of the aurora in Northeast Ohio, you will most likely need to look low on the horizon. It’s best to use a camera with a long exposure, experts say.

Northeast Ohio has been spoiled with beautiful viewings of the aurora quite a lot lately, most prominently back in May.
