Ohio mom sentenced for leaving 3 kids home alone for days during Florida trip

A woman from suburban Cleveland left her three daughters, 7-year-old twins and a 10-year-old, home alone for three days while she took a trip to Florida earlier this year. This comes after another Ohio woman pleaded guilty to murder after her toddler died when she left the child at home alone for more than a week.

Dominique Knowles is facing the consequences this week, having been convicted of endangering children, The Independent is reporting.

Here’s what happened.

Concerned teacher requests welfare check on children

Police were alerted to the situation in February when a concerned teacher requested a wellness check on the students, the publication reported. On Feb. 22, officers conducting that check found Knowles’ apartment in “disarray.”

“Garbage, bins and bags were strewn all over the floor,” court records state, per The Independent.

The children told police they didn’t have a cellphone, but were communicating with their mother through Nest cameras around the house and by FaceTime on a tablet. However, the tablet was not charged or working when authorities visited, the publication reported.
