CLEVELAND (WJW) – The FOX 8 I-Team has found there will be even more investigation surrounding the crash of a police SUV carrying Cleveland Mayor Justin Bibb.
The Civilian Police Review Board just referred the case to Cleveland Police Internal Affairs after an investigation into a citizens complaint suggested an officer driving the mayor committed a list of policy violations.
This comes to light five months after the crash. Instead of the case wrapping up, it has expanded.
A review by the Office of Professional Standards (OPS) found the mayor’s driver caused a crash when he blew a red light after turning on his police lights even though there was no emergency.

OPS also found that officer was not wearing his body camera, he was not wearing his bulletproof vest and he gave conflicting statements after the crash, specifically, about injuries.
The administrator for OPS identified the officer as detective Demetrious Woods.
“OPS recommends disciplinary measures,” OPS Administrator Marcus Perez said. “Once again, there was no emergency.”
