I-Team: More business owners demand action from city on crime

CLEVELAND (WJW) — The Fox 8 I-Team has uncovered more about a new push to beef up security downtown, and we’ve found more backlash against it.

Earlier this week, we revealed one businessman’s sweeping new plan to help expand downtown patrols by the Cuyahoga County Sheriff Dept.

The I-Team also learned that this week another Cleveland business owner wrote a letter to Mayor Justin Bibb complaining about crime. The I-Team obtained a copy of the letter.

It said, “We do not believe enough is being done. Public safety in the City of Cleveland must be a TOP PRIORITY.”

The letter refers to a street takeover in the Flats and it points out that someone broke into the car of a suburban mayor during a meeting of local mayors.

Last week, the I-Team revealed another business owner told city hall he is moving out of Cleveland, in part, due to a video of a shootout in the Flats with bullets flying near a high school rowing team.

Real estate investor Terry Coyne told the I-Team , “These are serious issues, and we have to address them.”
