YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio (WKBN) — Hundreds of people lined Gypsy Lane and surrounding streets for a free household items giveaway on Saturday.
The event started at 1 p.m., but people were starting to line up at 8 a.m. The giveaway was hosted by the City of Youngstown and Cleveland-based nonprofit The Colony Collective, which hosts free giveaways every first and third Saturday.
Executive Director Chauncey Phillips said he lived in Youngstown for a short period and wanted to bring the distribution to the Valley.
“That’s a blessing for everyone else, and I just want to do the right thing, basically. We don’t hold any of the supplies. We give it out to the people directly,” Phillips said.
The giveaway provided people with household necessities such as pillows, diapers, mop heads and sanitizers.
