There is a scene in the 1996 movie “Lone Star” in which a successful restaurateur in a Texas border town who had entered the country as a teenager is relaxing on her patio one evening when she abruptly calls the Border Patrol to report illegals running across her property. Another scene has her daughter, who is the head of the Social Studies Department at the local high school, engaged in a heated discussion with the other department teachers about what to teach in American History, given such a diverse community. Sounds like a real contemporary story.
