I-TEAM: New year ahead-new fight to crack down on speed cameras

CLEVELAND (WJW) — Drivers, the Fox 8 I-Team has found a push to have new rules over speed cameras failed in 2024, but the plan isn’t dead yet.

New Ohio laws taking effect in 2025

This year, once again, we saw some speed camera tickets sent to the wrong drivers.

We saw police officers hidden in the woods going to extremes to clock drivers and send out speed camera tickets.

And, even more towns in Northeast Ohio started using speed cameras.

So, the demand to crack down on speed cameras is not going away.

“We’re committed to the traffic camera dilemma,” State Representative Tom Patton said.

For years, Rep. Patton has tried to get the state to start regulating speed cameras.

And this year he introduced his most aggressive proposals. Yet that still did not result in any new laws.

But, Patton plans to try once more.

“I’m gonna bring it back up in January. My citizens in my district elected me to a four year term. I’m gonna bring it up every year until we get some satisfaction. I’m listening to the people,” he told the I-Team.
