1 dead after crash on Interstate 77

RICHFIELD TOWNSHIP, Ohio (WJW) – One person has died after a crash on Interstate 77 in Richfield Township.

According to a press release from the Ohio State Highway Patrol, a 2010 Toyota Rav 4 was traveling south on I-77 on Wednesday around 9:40 p.m. when it hit a 2013 GMC that was disabled in the right lane.

The driver of the GMC, 64-year-old Donald Chambers Jr., was taken to Akron General Montrose where he was pronounced dead, the release said.

According to the release, Chambers was wearing a seatbelt at the time of the crash.

The driver of the Toyota Rav 4 was taken to Akron General Hospital for minor injuries and was wearing a seat belt at the time of the crash, the release said.

This crash remains under investigation.
