CLEVELAND, Ohio (WJW) – The American Red Cross put out a call for volunteers Wednesday morning to man emergency shelters for people displaced by the wildfires in southern California.
The Northern Ohio Region is now seeing if any of their volunteers are available, Regional Communications Manager Christy Peters told Fox 8 News.

”Here in northern Ohio, we are fortunate that we don’t experience many huge natural disasters like wildfires or hurricanes. So, often our volunteers are willing to go because they realize those people need help,” she said.
Anyone who is available to go away for at least two weeks will be put on a list of available volunteers. Peters said it’s highly likely they’ll be sent to California because of the mass destruction that’s already happened.
It’s just a matter of which emergency shelters need the most help.
Peters pointed out that so many people will have had to make quick evacuations and could be without food, clothes, toiletries or medication. Many may have had to abandon their car.
