East Cleveland official faces federal charges in alleged bribery scheme involving fake royals

EAST CLEVELAND, Ohio — A city official is facing federal charges in connection to an alleged bribery scheme in East Cleveland.

According to our news partners at Cleveland.com, Michael Smedley, who is chief of staff to the city’s suspended Mayor Brandon King, is accused of accepting bribes from two brothers who allegedly pretended to be royalty.

Those brothers — Zubair Mehmet Abdur Razzaq Al Zubair and Muzzammil Muhammad Al Zubair — were both indicted early last year…
