Summit County men sentenced to year in prison after pleading guilty to Ohio City street takeover

CLEVELAND — Gauge Franklin and John Dietrich, two of the first suspects arrested for the “street takeovers” last September in Cleveland, were each sentenced to one year in prison on Thursday.

The sentence handed down by Cuyahoga County Common Pleas Court Judge John Russo comes after the pair pleaded guilty last month to charges of aggravated riot, inducing panic and arson for the Sept. 15 takeover in Ohio City. Franklin and Dietrich must also pay a total of $39,242.80 in restitution to the city of Cleveland.

“What about this did you think was right? You put yourself there, you drove there, you parked on the wrong side of the street after I look at it,” Russo said as he sentenced the two men from Summit County. “You bring a gas can and there’s clearly intent to light a street on fire. Whatever the intent was to cause harm.”…
